Melasti

Melasti is a ceremony held in conjunction with Nyepi Day, the Balinese New Year. It is usually carried out 3 days before Nyepi Day. During Melasti, the Hindu Balinese hold a procession from the temple to the ocean where a purification ceremony is held. The effigies of gods from each village temple are carried from the temples to the ocean, river or any holy place with water where they are ceremonially sprinkled with holy water.
